Aerial tramway Lünersee

Brand

PB Lünersee Railway Brand

WITH FULL COMFORT TO THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN AUSTRIA!

Vorarlberger Illwerke AG is the owner of the Lünerseebahn in Brand, which is operated by the subsidiary Golm-Silvretta-Lünersee Tourismus GmbH (GSL). This single-track aerial tramway was initially approved for construction in 1954 as a cableway with limited public operation and operated purely as a power station tramway for Lake Lünersee. On June 22, 1959, the concession for public operation was granted for 60 years, so that the cableway could subsequently also be used for tourism. The operating license under railroad law was granted on 02.07.1959.

Various components of the ropeway had to be renewed in several stages in order to maintain operation. With the expiry of the concession, a wide range of variants from reconstruction to complete new construction were examined. The last one was the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the existing ropeway in 2019. I.e. the station buildings in the valley and on the mountain were retained, the ropeway technology was completely rebuilt. With the new single-track Lünerseebahn, there was an increase in car capacity from the previous 45 people to a new 65 people + car attendant. All entrances and exits were also equipped with appropriate ramps. The new Lünerseebahn was able to start operation on schedule on August 8, 2020. Instead of the previous two supports, there is now only one large cable car support just before the top station. The single-track reversible aerial tramway with one support rope has become a single-track reversible aerial tramway with two support ropes. As with the old ropeway, a specially constructed new platform can be attached to the cabin for transporting loads or the cabin can be completely unhooked.
